Dr. Denneal Jamison-McClung directs the UC Davis Biotechnology Program and is co-founder of the UC Davis Cultivated Meat Consortium. She has over twenty years of experience as a science educator, focusing on skills needed for translational research and graduate training in the life sciences and engineering. As a science communicator, she participates in fact-based conversations on the societal impacts of emerging technologies in food, agriculture and healthcare, serving as an expert resource for non-specialists, including policy makers, journalists, businesses and community groups.

The Biotech Program is a unit of the Office of Research and has a long history of developing public-private partnerships to support research and graduate education. Dr. Jamison-McClung directs two PhD programs collectively encompassing ~200 students across 29 life science and engineering disciplines – the Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology (DEB) and Advanced Degree Program for Corporate Employees (ADP). Dr. Jamison-McClung co-instructs DEB courses and workshops, as well as lecturing for the Graduate School of Management Biotechnology Immersion Program. Since 2007, Dr. Jamison-McClung has led the BioTech SYSTEM regional K-14 STEM education consortium and serves on a number of advisory committees to support STEM education and public science literacy (e.g., SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity [MOSAC] Education Committee).

A strong advocate for women and underrepresented groups in science, Dr. Jamison-McClung serves as a member of the UC Davis Center for Multicultural Perspectives on Science (CAMPOS) committee and is co-investigator for the Advancing Diversity by Educating the Professors of Tomorrow (ADEPT) program in partnership with colleagues at Sacramento State University. Across all research and education programs, Dr. Jamison-McClung is actively engaged in creating inclusive training environments for biotech scholars pursuing career paths in academia, government, non-profits and industry.
